About my area

The Creuse is jokingly called La France Profonde, or deepest darkest France - until you arrive and are smitten. It’s made up of many small, often ancient, villages and hamlets. Lakes and forests abound, and outdoor activities are popular, from hiking to lake-swimming to cycling. This is the gateway to the Millevaches Natural Park which covers a total of 314,000 ha of moors, peat bogs, forests, and meadows. The Natural Park also holds the prestigious label of Réserve Internationale de Ciel Étoilé as one of the darkest skies in Western Europe - a stargazer’s heaven. Ring the changes with a day trip paragliding or skiing at the volcanoes of the Puy de Dome, or just sit and relax in a local cafe and watch the world go by. The Creuse is about a 4-hour drive from Paris and the international (albeit tiny) airport of Limoges is an hour and a half away.

About me

I was a solicitor in Scotland, then we ran our family bakery, before the draw of France, cheese and wine pulled us across the channel in 2007. We arrived with three young children, a cat and a dog, and took up residence in a tiny hamlet in rural France. We are still there, having been though the French integration journey with school, learning the language, and becoming part of our little community. It helps that my husband is a tractor engineer! We intended to stay for a few years and learn the language, but that has turned now into nearly 20, and we'd struggle now to leave. It has been a fantastic challenge, a wonderful place to raise children, and we are very much looking forward to one day retiring and enjoying our vegetable garden and donkeys. For now, it's a pleasure to help people find their own piece of paradise in this part of France, and guide them through the more and more complicated house-buying process, in French or in English.
