The magical Perigord Noir (Black Perigord) is an area of outstanding natural beauty and is the most visited region of the Dordogne. Sarlat, a spectacular medieval village, is the capital and is surrounded by many popular sights such as La Roque-Gageac, Beynac, Domme, the famous Lascaux caves near Montignac, Lez Eyzies, Chateau Hautefort, Terrasson, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, St.Cyprien, Limeuil, Cadouin and Belves. The southern part of the Perigord Noir follows the Dordogne valley as it flows from east to west, while the northern part follows the valley of the River Vézère, European centre of prehistoric sites. The region is easily accessible with airports in Bergerac, Brive de la Gaillarde (Cressensac), Toulouse, Limoges and Rodez. From here you can easily venture across the border into the Lot department to visit Rocamadour and the stunning Grottes de Padirac
