About my area

Brittany has the luxury of having a bit of everything. The coastlines can be either rugged or with long sandy beaches, peaceful or bustling with people but whichever you choose they are all beautiful in their own way. I live no further than 25 mins from the nearest beaches where I can walk along coastal paths for many kilometers unhindered. My home is in the countryside where there are still natural woodlands more or less undisturbed by human presence. There are many beautiful lakes, both with or without boats or fishermen. The biggest noticeable thing here in Brittany is space and lots of it. If I take a break in the UK, no matter for how long, when I return to France I am still amazed how empty the roads are compared to the UK, I might be biased perhaps.

About me

Why do I live in Brittany? "That is the question," a famous playwright once wrote, I ask myself that question many times as do my friends and family but you have to live here and in my case, also work here, to answer that. Once you have savoured the food, absorbed Bretonne culture, talked to the friendly locals and experienced the lifestyle you really begin to appreciate this part of France. I first moved to France in 1988 when Brittany Ferries were still running a black and yellow ferry called the Tregastel and the little Duchess Anne, and how things have changed. I lived in Scaër for several years before returning to Milton Keynes of all places seeking gold. It took 10 years to realise I had been bitten, but did not know it, and bought the house I now live in near Guémené Sur Scorff. I spent several years working for a French company, clocking up many thousands of kilometers visiting every possible corner of France until one day, I realised how much of my own area I did not know and that I needed to slow down. To conclude, I now work with Leggett Immobilier, which has its own challenges, but is very enjoyable. I live in the beautiful countryside with a 4 year old Bretonne (trait) horse and her 1 year old foal, two mischievous donkeys, the standard chickens and a goose called Emmott. My guilty pleasures include a little golf, snorkling in the rich rocky inlets along the coastline, sailing my trusty old vintage 470 dinghy and attending to my varied collection motorcycles.
