Situated in South West France, the Gironde ‘département' is becoming better known and is a stunning contrast between the beautiful city of Bordeaux and the quiet villages in the surrounding area, famous for their many vineyards. Less than fifteen minutes out of town and you’re in the countryside, if you want calm and tranquillity without feeling isolated. Beautiful girondine properties made from local stone, imposing Maisons de Maitres, majestic chateaux and quaint cottage style houses make up the landscape, with miles and miles of vines. Bordeaux itself is an amazing city with its many beautiful old buildings, shops and restaurants, plus its fantastic and very efficient tramway system. The area has great transport links via air, road or rail – driveable from the Channel ports, with Spain a mere 3 hours away to the south, and easy access to the ski slopes. The resorts of the Atlantic coast, such as Arcachon, Lacanau and Royan are a short drive – try locally caught oysters or moules with a glass or two of wine!
