Two bedroomed ground floor apartment just a short stroll from the lovely beach and restaurants of Cebere
This two-bedroom ground-floor apartment offers a practical and charming living space in the coastal village of Cerbère. It features an open-concept living room and kitchen, a convenient laundry area, and a half-bath. Each bedroom has its own shower and sink.
The property also includes a storage room in the basement, ideal for storing bicycles, beach gear, or other personal belongings. One of the main highlights of this property is the large private attic located at the very top of the building, which offers a view of the sea. Although it is not connected to the municipal water supply or sewer system, it has excellent potential to serve as an artist’s studio, a home office, or a spacious storage area.
Originally built to house railroad workers, the apartment is located near the railroad tracks, yet just a stone’s throw from the beach, shops, and amenities. Cerbère is located near the Spanish border and is renowned for its spectacular coastline and magnificent hiking trails.

Details of the area
Cerbère occupies an exceptional position at the southern end of the Côte Vermeille, where the foothills of the Pyrénées meet the Mediterranean and France approaches the Spanish border. Surrounded by rocky coves, vineyards and dramatic coastal scenery, this characterful village offers a very different atmosphere from the larger seaside resorts. It is an ideal choice for anyone seeking an authentic coastal home, a holiday retreat or a base from which to explore both southern France and northern Spain.
The village has a beach, shops, restaurants and everyday amenities, while its railway station provides useful connections along the coast towards Banyuls-sur-Mer, Port-Vendres, Collioure, Argelès-sur-Mer and Perpignan, as well as south into Spain. This makes it possible to enjoy the region without relying entirely upon a car. The apartment is conveniently placed for both the seafront and village facilities, allowing owners and visitors to make the most of Cerbère’s relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle.
The coastline surrounding Cerbère is particularly beautiful. Steep hills descend towards clear blue water, creating a succession of sheltered beaches and rocky coves. The area is popular for swimming, snorkelling, diving, kayaking and boating, while the protected waters of the Cerbère-Banyuls Marine Nature Reserve are renowned for their rich marine life. Walkers are equally well served, with spectacular coastal paths offering far-reaching views across the Mediterranean and towards Spain.
Cerbère forms part of the celebrated Côte Vermeille, one of the most picturesque stretches of the French Mediterranean coast. The route north leads through Banyuls-sur-Mer, known for its vineyards and sweet fortified wine, to the colourful harbour town of Port-Vendres and the much-loved village of Collioure. With its waterfront cafés, historic château, narrow streets and distinctive bell tower, Collioure has long attracted artists and remains one of the jewels of the region. Argelès-sur-Mer, with its extensive sandy beaches, marina and lively selection of restaurants and leisure activities, is also within easy reach.
Inland, the landscape quickly changes from coast to mountain. The Pyrénées-Orientales is a remarkable department where Mediterranean beaches, vineyards, traditional villages and rugged mountain scenery can all be enjoyed within a relatively compact area. The region offers wonderful opportunities for walking, cycling and exploring, from the foothills of the Albères to the higher peaks and historic villages of the Catalan countryside. Ski resorts and mountain lakes can be reached for longer day trips, making this an appealing destination throughout the year rather than simply during the summer months.
Perpignan, the departmental capital, adds another dimension to the location. This lively Catalan city offers a wide range of shops, restaurants, markets, cultural attractions, medical services and transport connections. Its historic centre includes elegant squares, colourful buildings and reminders of the city’s strong French and Catalan heritage. Perpignan also provides access to the TGV network and an airport, while the larger international airports at Girona and Barcelona broaden the choice of European and international travel.
One of Cerbère’s greatest attractions is its proximity to Spain. The border lies only a short distance away, making it easy to enjoy lunch in a Spanish seaside town, shop across the border or set off for a day exploring the Costa Brava. Immediately beyond the frontier are Portbou and the peaceful coves of the northern Catalan coast. Farther south, the Costa Brava offers beautiful destinations such as Llançà, El Port de la Selva and Cadaqués, together with the dramatic landscapes of Cap de Creus. Figueres, home to the famous Dalí Theatre-Museum, is also accessible, while Girona and Barcelona provide further possibilities for culture, shopping and travel.
