Dome-shaped eco-house in the heart of the Landes countryside.
This sleek, innovative and contemporary style home was designed by architect Patrick Marsilli, the founder of 'Domespace'.
It nestles in a beautiful and peaceful location near the banks of the river Rimbez and on the fringes of the Parc Natural des Landes de Gascogne - one of the greatest expanses of forest in Western Europe and a haven for nature lovers.
It has two bedrooms, a living room, a mezzanine floor and a large garage that sits under the entire ground floor of the house.
Close by there is another wooden newbuild, currently serving as an office and perfect for working from home or as a guest studio.
There are over 4 hectares of private unspoilt land - a mix of woodland, prairie and also 200 metres of river - ideal for keeping horses or other animals. There is also a large polytunnel, a potager and an orchard where the owners grow much of their own produce.
This is a perfect balance of modernity and environmentally friendly living in a tranquil rural setting.
Since their inception in 1988, approximately 250 'Domespace' structures have been built worldwide, serving various purposes including private residences, studios, and eco-lodges just like this one.
The dome shape promotes a sense of well-being and spatial efficiency, with the curved walls facilitating even heat distribution and reducing energy consumption.
Along with their stylish, futuristic appearance and rustic charm, these houses have many other practical advantages including:
Excellent thermal efficiency and reduced energy bills.
Low maintenance due to high-quality materials and design.
Resilience against harsh weather conditions.
The house is made from a variety of woods including Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, Larch and Beech.
The front entrance corridor opens into the main open-plan living space with an open plan kitchen, and a dining and living area. There is beautiful wooden parquet flooring (with the pattern mirroring the ceiling details).
This circular space has high vaulted ceilings with exposed wooden beams and a central wood burning stove integrated into the building structure.
To the right, there are three partitioned rooms forming two bedrooms and a bathroom:
Bedroom 1 (11m2),
Bedroom 2 (12m2)
Bathroom (8m2)
In keeping with the ethos of the entire property, the bathroom has a compostable toilet as well as a large shower.
All rooms retain the attractive curved vaulted ceilings and exposed wood walls.
On the left, is a partitioned pantry room (3m2) with steps leading down to the cellar.
There are glass sliding doors to a balcony (approx. 10m2) which has far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside.
Ladder-style stairs lead to a mezzanine floor which covers almost half of the ground floor living area and provides a useful storage area.
There is a cellar which covers the entire footprint of the building with double garage doors.
There is a second compostable toilet on this floor.
Within the grounds is a more recently built detached wooden building (18m2) which could be used as an office or separate guest accommodation.
Location and Infrastructure:
Situated in the Landes, the property is strategically placed close to two equally diverse and beautiful departments: the Gers and the Lot et Garonne.
So you really do have the best of all worlds here and there is much to see, do and explore nearby.
The Landes is a Department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region with a long coastline on the Atlantic to the west famous for its golden sand beaches.
The Department is the second-largest department in France and it includes the Parc Natural des Landes de Gascogne. Its capital is Mont-de-Marsan.
